It was as unlikely race car. It was powered by a steam engine.  Its body, made of wood and canvas, resembled an upside-down canoe.  Its tires weren’t much larger than a bicycle, and it was steered by a tiller, not a steering wheel.  It was the Rocket, and in 1906, it was the fastest car in the world.
